Vladimir Putin's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov says the Olympic Games in Sochi are an extraordinary event, which has pushed the scandals around the Games to the background

MOSCOW, February 10. /ITAR-TASS/. Vladimir Putin's Press Secretary  Dmitry Peskov says the Olympic Games in Sochi are an extraordinary event, which has pushed to the background the nerves and scandals around the Games.

“This is a very extraordinary event. Now that I am looking at what is happening there, the pride is feeling me. And now all the nerves and whatever scandals around the Games seem to go to the background,” he said in an interview with the Kommersant FM radio station.

Peskov remembered the time, where organisers “began from the peat at Imeretinskaya Valley” and he saw “the unconquerable mud in the mountainous cluster where stood two clumsy houses.”

“Honestly speaking, nobody could believe it would be doable, as everything seemed very complicated,” the press secretary said. “It was the world’s biggest construction site, and Putin said about it. It was biggest in the size and in the number of involved constructors, and in all the ecology programmes and so on and so forth.”

Peskov remembered the dust in the air in Imeretinskaya Valley only a month earlier. “Only now I realise Putin understood it from the very beginning - the dust will go with the rains, and all that will remain for this country for decades. I am sure more and more people will come to realise it,” Peskov said.
