Russian soprano Anna Netrebko to sing Olympic hymn
Classical music would prevail in the opening ceremony but spectators would also hear the Russian pop music duo t.A.T.u
SOCHI, February 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko will perform the Olympic hymn during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games in hosting Black Sea resort Sochi, the ceremony’s chief creative producer and script author, Konstantin Ernst, told reporters on Friday.
“This is one of a few secrets I can disclose,” he said. “She will do this brilliantly.”
Ernst said classical music would prevail in the opening ceremony but spectators would also hear the Russian pop music duo t.A.T.u.
“We used music of Russian bands and singers who are well known in the world. t.A.T.u. is one of few such bands,” said Ernst, who is also director general of Channel One television.
The opening ceremony begins at the Fisht Olympic Stadium at 20:14 on February 7. It will last 160 minutes, bringing together 3,000 singers and dancers and 2,000 volunteers.
