Emergencies minister: Security "world class" as Games approach
Security measures reflect those in place for last summer's Universiade international sporting event in Kazan
KRASNOGORSK (Moscow region), January 28. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov says his units are set to ensure protection of guests and participants at the Sochi Olympics, assessing the level of security as high.
“Ministry forces and equipment to fulfill tasks in difficult conditions have been assembled in Sochi,” Puchkov told an all-Russia assembly reviewing results of Russian emergency prevention and response capabilities during last year.
Security measures reflected those in place for last summer's Universiade international sporting event in Kazan, Tatarstan, Puchkov said.
“All issues of safety, from natural and man-made disasters and fires as well as security for Olympics guests, have been settled at a world level,” the minister said.
These included new fire stations and an emergency situation control centre alongside a centre for mounted police and dog handlers.
