BEIJING, October 8. /TASS/. Russia’s Mirra Andreeva has beaten her compatriot Ekaterina Alexandrova in the quarterfinals of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tournament in Beijing.
The meeting ended with a score 7:6 (7:4), 7:6 (7:3) in favor of Andreeva. She was seeded 4th, while Alexandrova 19th. In the semifinals, the Russian will play against Nikola Bartunkova from the Czech Republic (26).
Andreeva, 19, is 5th in the WTA rankings. She has won six titles under the auspices of the organization in singles. In June, she won the French Open, her first-ever Grand Slam. In 2024, Andreeva, paired with her compatriot Diana Schnaider, won Olympic silver in women's doubles.
Alexandrova, 31, ranks 28th in the world. She has won five WTA singles competitions. The athlete reached the fourth round of Grand Slam tournaments four times. In 2021, she won the Billie Jean King Cup as a member of the Russian national team.
The China Open belongs to the WTA 1,000 category and is held on a hard surface. The reigning champion at the event is American Amanda Anisimova, who is not participating in this year's tournament due to an injury.
