International Ski and Snowboard Federation grants neutral status to 19 more Russians

The organization has altered a previous provision regulating the admission of Russians, which concerned security agencies. It scrapped the provision stating that the status would not be granted to athletes affiliated with the Russian Armed Forces or security agencies

MOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has ruled to clear 19 Russian athletes for their participation in international tournaments under a neutral status, the FIS press office announced in a statement on Thursday.

Last week, FIS approved the procedure for Russian athletes to submit a neutral-status application. The organization has altered a previous provision regulating the admission of Russians, which concerned security agencies. It scrapped the provision stating that the status would not be granted to athletes affiliated with the Russian Armed Forces or security agencies.

The Russian athletes with the newly granted neutral status are Daria Nepryayeva, Ksenia Shorokhova, Nikita Denisov and Sergey Volkov (all cross-country skiing); Ilya Khurtin, Yegor Klyuev, Dmitry Podolsky, Konstantin Sannikov, Igor Sluyev, Varvara Romanova, Ilya Vityugov, Yana Ulyanova and Maria Valova (all snowboarding); Danil Sadreyev, Yevgeny Klimov, Ilya Mankov, Mikhail Nazarov and Konstantin Nikolayev (all ski-jump); and Maxim Senkevich (freestyle).

On September 2, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) ruled to clear Russian athletes for the participation in the 2026/2027 season tournaments under a neutral status.

In 2022, FIS suspended Russian athletes due to the developments in Ukraine. Last season, a number of Russian athletes were granted the right to compete in FIS-sponsored tournaments under a neutral status.

At the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Italy, the FIS granted a neutral status to ski mountaineer Nikita Filippov, cross-country skiers Savely Korostelyov and Daria Nepryayeva, alpine skiers Semyon Yefimov and Yulia Pleshkova.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced a decision in July, 2026 to reinstate the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and also recommended lifting restrictions on the participation of Russian athletes in all international tournaments, including both in individual and team competitions.
