WASHINGTON, August 24. /TASS/. Russia’s top male tennis player Daniil Medvedev moved down a spot in the new ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Rankings list published earlier on Monday.

The Russian, who is playing under a neutral status at international tournaments, is now 8th in the ATP Rankings with 3,580 points. Playing last week at the 2026 ATP Cincinnati Open in the United States, Medvedev lost in the third round.

Another Russian tennis star, Andrey Rublev, plunged six spots in the ATP Rankings, falling out of the top 20 for the first time in six years. He now sits in 24th place with 2,080 points.

This week’s ATP Top-10 is as follows: 1st Jannik Sinner (Italy, 12,800 points); 2nd Alexander Zverev (Germany, 7,790 points); 3rd Carlos Alcaraz (Spain, 7,160 points); 4th Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada, 4,640 points); 5th Novak Djokovic (Serbia, 3,770 points); 6th Flavio Cobolli (Italy, 3,710 points); 7th Alex de Minaur (Australia, 3,650 points); 8th Daniil Medvedev (a Russian neutral-status tennis player, 3,580); 9th Ben Shelton (the United States, 3,480 points) and 10th Taylor Fritz (the United States, 3,475 points).

Medvedev, 30, spent sixteen weeks as the world’s number one player in 2022. He previously won the 2021 US Open and holds 23 ATP titles. He won five of those 23 titles in 2023. Also, in 2021, he won the Davis Cup as well as the ATP Cup playing for the Russian national team.

Rublev, 28, has won 18 career ATP singles tournament titles and four more in men’s doubles. Rublev has never made it past the quarterfinals in any Grand Slam. The Russian tennis player took home the gold at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo in mixed doubles (with teammate Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova) and also won the 2021 Davis Cup as part of the Russian national team.

Russian players’ neutral status at tennis tournaments

On February 28, 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued recommendations to international sports federations to bar athletes from Russia and Belarus from taking part in international tournaments, citing Moscow's special military operation in Ukraine as the reason.

Following the IOC's recommendations in late February 2022, the majority of global sports federations decided to bar athletes from Russia and Belarus from all international sports tournaments.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) ruled on March 1, 2022 to suspend the membership of the Russian and Belarusian national tennis federations while also canceling all previously scheduled tennis tournaments in the two countries.

On March 14, 2022, the ITF also confirmed its prohibition on the Russian and Belarusian national tennis teams from taking part in the 2022 Davis Cup and 2022 Billie Jean King Cup.
