NEW YORK, August 9. /TASS/. Russia’s Yekaterina Alexandrova defeated world’s number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in the fourth round of the 2026 WTA Toronto Open tennis tournament in Canada, advancing to the event’s quarterfinals.
Alexandrova, seeded 16th, won 7:6 (7:3), 4:6, 6:4. Sabalenka was seeded first.
In the quarterfinal match, the Russian player will face Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, seeded ninth.
Alexandrova, 31, is currently the world’s No. 19 player, according to the WTA Rankings. She holds five career WTA titles under her belt and played in four Grand Slam quarterfinal matches. She also won the 2021 Billie Jean King Cup playing for the Russian national team.
