PARIS, July 28. /TASS/. Zinedine Zidane, a World Cup winner as a player and a three-time Champions League-winning manager, took over as head coach of the France national football team, Philippe Diallo, President of the French Football Federation, told journalists.

The contract is valid until the 2030 World Cup finals.

Zidane replaced Didier Deschamps, who has managed the team for the past 14 years. Under Deschamps, France won the 2018 World Cup, finished as silver medalists at the 2022 World Cup and the 2016 European Championship, and won the 2021 UEFA Nations League.

Zidane, 54, has previously managed Spain’s Real Madrid twice - from 2019 to 2021 and from 2016 to 2018. Under his leadership, Real Madrid won the Champions League three times, and two times each the Spanish championship and Super Cup.

During his tenure as a player, Zidane played for France’s AS Cannes and FC Bordeaux, Italy's Juventus, and Real Madrid. With the latter, he won the Spanish championship in 2003 and scored the iconic winning goal in the Champions League final match against Germany's Bayer (2-1) in 2002. With Juventus, he became a two-time Italian champion. As a member of the French national team, Zidane played 108 matches, scored 31 goals and provided 29 assists to become a World Cup winner (1998), a silver medalist (2006), and a European champion (2000).
