LONDON, May 17. /TASS/. Spaniard Xabi Alonso will become the new manager of English football club Chelsea, the London team's press service announced.

"Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Xabi Alonso as Manager of the men’s team," the statement says.

Alonso will assume his duties on July 1. His contract with Chelsea is for four years.
