"The atmosphere of the Paris Paralympics was far removed from the essence of a true sports festival, one that embodies the values of equality, friendship, mutual respect for cultures and traditions, honest competition," the head of state noted

MOSCOW, December 16. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the atmosphere at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics was devoid of the sporting spirit that should embody these competitions.

"Let’s be honest: the atmosphere of the Paris Paralympics, like the Olympics, was far removed from the essence of a true sports festival, one that embodies the values of equality, friendship, mutual respect for cultures and traditions, honest competition," the head of state said during the awarding ceremony of the Russian Paralympic team.

"Not only did you have to compete as neutral athletes, but your entire national team faced a multitude of various restrictions," Putin said.

"Still, the entire country was behind you," the president assured the athletes.
