NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers sign Russian goalkeeper Fedotov
The club cited General Manager Danny Briere as saying that "Fedotov is immediately available for game action, which would also apply to the playoffs should the Flyers make the postseason"
MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. Russian ice hockey goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov has been signed by the Philadelphia Flyers of the US-based National Hockey League (NHL), the club’s press office said in a statement on Friday.
"The team held a press conference at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees to announce the long-awaited arrival of goaltender Ivan Fedotov to the National Hockey League. Fedotov is eligible both for regular season and playoff duty," the statement reads.
The club cited General Manager Danny Briere as saying that "Fedotov is immediately available for game action, which would also apply to the playoffs should the Flyers make the postseason."
Playing for Russia’s CSKA St. Petersburg club in the Russian Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Fedotov won the Gagarin Cup in 2022 and also won a silver medal playing for the Russian national team at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in China’s Beijing.
The Kontinental Hockey League was founded in Russia in 2008 and lists 23 professional ice hockey clubs, namely from Russia, Belarus, China and Kazakhstan.
The NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers are currently ranked 3rd in the Metropolitan division of the league’s Eastern Division with 82 points after 74 games played. The club’s next game will be at home against the Chicago Blackhawks on March 31.
