International sports federations recommended not to take part in competitions in Russia
The World Friendship Games are scheduled to be held in Russia on September 15 through 29, 2024
MOSCOW, December 5. /TASS/. The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and the Winter Olympic Federations (WOF) has recommended athletes refrain from participating in tournaments held in Russia, the press service of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said.
"The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and the Winter Olympic Federations (WOF) reaffirmed their recommendations to IFs (International Federations - TASS) not to be involved in any way in such politically motivated sports events. They confirmed that every IF should refuse to consider the inclusion of such events in its international sports calendar and should not acknowledge the results achieved by athletes at these events," it said.
The World Friendship Games are scheduled to be held in Russia on September 15 through 29, 2024.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) cautioned National Olympic Committees (NOCs) against participating in next year’s World Friendship Games in Russia, as this would violate the global Olympic body’s recommendations. In mid-November, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) warned that certain sanctions could follow for any international athletes willing to participate in the 2024 World Friendship Games. WADA President Witold Banks said: "The possible participation in those competitions of those who are parties to the WADA Code, may have certain consequences.".
