MOSCOW, December 2. /TASS/. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has not put Russia on the list of teams for the 2024-2025 Nations League draw, the UEFA press service reported.
Fifty-four UEFA national teams are to take part in the 2024-2025 edition of the Nations League. The tournament is part of European qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The UEFA Nations League has been held since 2018. The tournament was devised to replace international friendly matches with official matches against other European national teams of comparable level. Portugal, France and Spain have been the winners of the previous tournaments.
On February 28, 2022, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) barred Russian clubs and teams from participating in international competitions due to the situation around Ukraine. The national team of Russia did not take part in the previous Nations League, so it was relegated from League B to League C.
