Sports court to rule on Russian figure skater Valieva’s doping case in early 2024 — media
Kamila Valieva, 17, is suspected of using the banned drug trimetazidine
TASS, November 10. The Lausanne, Switzerland-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will issue its verdict in early 2024 on the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva testing positive for doping, the USA Today newspaper reported.
The CAS held hearings on Valieva’s case on September 26-28. The court decided to adjourn until new hearings on November 9-10 given the need to prepare additional documentation. On November 9, Valieva was re-examined by CAS arbitrators.
"A final ruling by the CAS panel is expected to come sometime in the next few months, perhaps in December but much more likely after the holidays in early 2024," USA Today sports columnist Christine Brennan wrote.
Valieva, 17, is suspected of using the banned drug trimetazidine. It was detected in a sample taken in testing on December 25, 2021, the results of which were publicly disclosed only in February 2022 during the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. By that time, the Russian skater had already won an Olympic gold medal in the team competition.
