Chess Grandmaster Karjakin welcomes Russia’s participation in Asian chess tournaments
"The competition there is fierce and the chess school is very well-developed so it won’t be easy for us," the Russian Chess Grandmaster said
MOSCOW, January 31. /TASS/. The possible participation of Russian chess players at tournaments organized by the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) would give them good experience and positive motivation, Russian Chess Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin told TASS on Tuesday.
"In view of the anti-Russian politics, we are barred from playing at European tournaments and this is why it’s logical to switch to Asia," Karjakin said.
"The competition there is fierce and the chess school is very well-developed so it won’t be easy for us," he continued.
"However, on the other hand, it would be extra motivation and good experience for our athletes," the player added.
Russia’s Chess Grandmaster Karjakin, 33, is currently 10th on the FIDE Rankings List. In 2016, the Russian chess player won the Candidates Tournament and then lost the World Chess Championship title match to Norwegian Magnus Carlsen.
Karjakin is the winner of the Chess World Cup in 2015. He is also the world champion in Rapid Chess (2012) and Blitz (2016).
