Russian two-time Olympic Champ Kanayeva attends 2022 gymnastics congress in Istanbul
The 2022 FIG Congress is being held in Turkey’s Istanbul from November 11 to 12
MOSCOW, November 11. /TASS/. Russia’s two-time Olympic champion Yevgeniya Kanayeva is taking part in the 2022 International Gymnastics (FIG) Congress in Turkey as a delegate from the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (RRGF), the national sports governing body’s press office told TASS on Friday.
The 2022 FIG Congress is being held in Turkey’s Istanbul from November 11 to 12.
"Yevgeniya Kanayeva arrived at the Congress as a representative of the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation," the press office reported.
The Russian delegation to the Istanbul-hosted gymnastics conference is made up of five people, and along with Kanayeva it also includes FIG Executive Committee member Vasily Titov, Vsevolod Salomatov, who represents the Artistic Gymnastics Federation of Russia, Nikolai Makarov (representing the Russian Trampoline Federation) and Vladislav Oskner (representing the All-Russia Aerobic Gymnastics Federation).
The 2022 FIG Congress was initially scheduled to be hosted by Norway, but was later relocated because the Norwegian Gymnastics Federation refused to organize the event citing the recommendations issued by the Norwegian Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Culture against inviting officials from Russia and Belarus to all events in the Nordic country.
Kanayeva, 32, is a two-time Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics all-around competitions (2008 and 2012) and a 17-time world champion. She currently serves as a coach of the Russian national rhythmic gymnastics team and is a member of the RRGF presidium.
