Russia’s MMA fighter Vadim Nemkov hospitalized after his bout with US Corey Anderson
The fight was stopped by referees in Round 3 after the Russian sustained a severe eyebrow cut following Anderson’s blow with a head on Nemkov’s head
MOSCOW, April 16. /TASS/. Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Vadim Nemkov was rushed to a hospital after his bout against Corey Anderson of the United States, the US-based Bellator mixed martial arts promotion announced to TASS on Saturday.
The Bellator light heavyweight grand prix final between Nemkov and Anderson was held on Saturday in San Jose (the US State of California). There was no eventual winner in the fight as the bout was classified by officials as ‘No Contest. Accidental clash of heads.’
The fight was stopped by referees in Round 3 after the Russian sustained a severe eyebrow cut following Anderson’s blow with a head on Nemkov’s head.
"The [eyebrow] slash turned out to be very serious and Vadim was rushed to a hospital," a spokesman for Bellator told TASS. "He will be rendered a complete medical assistance there."
Speaking after the incident at a news conference, Scott Cocker, the head of the US-based Bellator promotion, said that the fight between the Russian and US fighters can be staged in the fall of this year’s summer.
"It’s unfortunate, the way that fight ended. I was surprised, I didn’t realize his cut was so deep, to the bone," Cocker said addressing the news conference.
"What we’re going to do, is we’re going to regroup, we’re going to put that fight together in the next, I would say, three, four months, as soon as everybody’s healthy and ready to go, everybody gets a good camp in, but we’re definitely going to rerun that fight," Bellator chief continued.
"Sometime in the late summer maybe," Scott Cocker stressed.
Nemkov is the Bellator reigning champion in the light heavyweight division. He won the champion’s belt on August 21, 2020 and defended it twice since then. The 29-year-old Russian fighter boasts a professional MMA career record of 14 wins (nine by KO/TKO, three by submission and two by decision) and two defeats (one by KO/TKO and one by decision).
US fighter Corey ‘Overtime’ Anderson, 32, has a professional MMA career record of 16 wins (eight by KO/TKO and eight by decision) and five defeats (four by KO/TKO, one by decision).
