Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing declared closed

China’s team topped the overall medal standings with 18 gold, 20 silver, and 23 bronze medals

BEIJING, March 13. /TASS/. President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Andrew Parsons on Sunday declared the Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing closed.

The Paralympic Games started on March 4. Seventy-eight sets of medals in six sports disciplines, namely, biathlon, ski races, downhill skiing, sledge hockey, wheelchair curling, and snowboarding, were contested.

China’s team topped the overall medal standings with 18 gold, 20 silver, and 23 bronze medals. Ukraine was second (11-10-8), and Canada took the third place (8-6-11).

Russian Para athletes did not take part in the Games in Beijing following the March 3 decision of International Paralympic Committee, which barred Russian and Belarusian Para athletes from participating in the Games.
