International Paralympic Committee allows Russian paralympians to compete in Beijing
They will compete under the Paralympic flag
MOSCOW, March 2. /TASS/. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has decided to allow Russian and Belarusian paralympians to participate in the Beijing Games, according to the committee’s statement.
Russian and Belarusian paralympians "will participate as neutrals at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games, they will compete under the Paralympic flag," the IPC said.
The Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) accepts the IPC’s decision to allow Russian paralympians to compete in Beijing and will fully implement it, Acting RPC President Pavel Rozhkov told TASS. "Leaving aside our attitude to the reasons behind such a severe punishment for the RPC, we completely accept the International Paralympic Committee’s decision and will fully implement it," he said.
On February 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that international sports federations bar Russian and Belarusian athletes from taking part in international competitions due to the situation around Ukraine.
The Beijing Paralympic Games will be held on March 4-13. As many as 78 medal sets will be up for grabs.
