Russia’s merited figure skater Medvedeva: ‘It’s really difficult to stay motivated’

MOSCOW, January 19. /TASS/. Russia’s two-time World Champion in figure skating Evgenia Medvedeva says it is getting difficult for her to stay motivated as she faced numerous health challenges this season, OlympicChannel.com reported on Tuesday.
Last month, Medvedeva missed the 2020 Russian Figure Skating Championship in Chelyabinsk. In November, the 21-year-old figure skater skipped the 2020 ISU (the International Skating Union) Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Moscow and then did not participate in several stages of the Russia Cup due to reported pains in her back.
"In this season I’ve got, really, a lot of health challenges and I’m still fighting against them,"Medvedeva said in a video posted on the OlympicChannel.com. "My back is getting so much better and I’m still giving it great treatments and I’m healing every day."
"In this world that we are living in today, it is really difficult to stay motivated," she continued. "The only thing I can tell you now is that I’m doing my best to stay healthy and to be able to prepare for the competitions."
"I’m 21, and with every year it’s getting harder and harder to stay in shape and stay, like, ‘motivated.’" Medvedeva said. "When your body is almost always in pain it is really difficult to wake up every morning and go to practice and you know that you will feel the pain. But I’m doing my best."
"After the [2018] Olympics I was trying to prove to everybody something, but now I’m just looking back and, like, I’ve already proved everything," she added.
At the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea’s PyeongChang, Medvedeva won two silver medals - in team’s competition and in women’s singles. She is also a two-time world champion, two-time European champion and two-time winner of ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals.
In May 2020, Medvedeva announced a decision to part with her Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze and to begin trainings with Canadian Coach Brian Orser. World’s famous figure skating coach from Russia, Eteri Tutberidze, was in charge of Medvedeva’s training sessions between 2007 and 2018.
However, the Russian Sports Ministry announced in early November 2020 Eteri Tutberidze would be again in charge as a head coach of Russia’s 2018 two-time Olympic silver medalist in figure skating Medvedeva.
During her work with Orser, Medvedeva won the bronze of the 2019 World Figure Skating Championships in Japan’s Saitama, but never qualified for the ISU Grand Prix Final tournaments.
