Retired MMA fighter Connor McGregor drops a ‘comeback hint’ on his Twitter
McGregor announced his decision to wrap up his sports career on March 26
MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. /TASS/. The famous 30-year-old Irish professional mixed martial arts fighter and boxer, Conor McGregor, hinted at his possible comeback on Thursday, less than ten days after publicly announcing his retirement.
McGregor announced his decision to wrap up his sports career last week on March 26. The declaration was made on his Twitter account and nine days later the Irish fighter tweeted his intentions to get back into the octagon.
"I want to move forward, with my fans of all faiths and all backgrounds. All faiths challenge us to be our best selves. It is one world and one for all [love]. Now see you in the Octagon," McGregor wrote on his Twitter account earlier in the day.
McGregor is one of the most popular UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fighters boasting a record of 21 wins (18 by KO/TKO, one by submission and two be decision) and four defeats. He won his first champion’s title of the UFC in 2015 and became later the first MMA fighter to simultaneously hold the champion’s belts in the UFC featherweight and lightweight divisions.
On the night of October 6, 2018, Reigning UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov of Russia defeated McGregor during the UFC 229 tournament in Las Vegas, defending his lightweight title with a choke in the 4th round of the fight.
However, straight after the fight in Las Vegas last October, a mass brawl broke out between the teams of both fighters, including Nurmagomedov, who jumped out of the cage and attempted to beat up one of the Irish opponent’s team members for insulting him.
Both athletes were later slapped with various levels of sanctions for that incident. A court in the US state of Nevada ordered a nine-month suspension and a fine of $500,000 for Nurmagomedov.
Russian MMA fighter Zubaira Tukhugov was also involved in the notorious brawl after that fight. Tukhugov, 27, who holds a record of 18 wins, four defeats and zero draws, was reported to have attacked McGregor after the fight, while Khabib Nurmagomedov jumped out of the octagon. Tukhugov stated later in his Twitter account that he only slapped the Irish fighter once and did nothing else.
