MOSCOW, January 28. /TASS/. Switzerland’s tennis star Roger Federer dropped from three places down to 6th position in the newly-published Ranking list of the Association of Tennis Professionals.

The drop of the 37-year old tennis player followed after this year’s opening Grand Slam tournament, the 2019 Australian Open, which was held in Melbourne between January 14 and 27.

Two-time Australian Open defending champion Federer failed to clear the round of Last 16 this year losing to 20-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece. Besides having six champion’s titles of the Australian Open tournaments, Federer has an impressive overall record of 99 titles and the tournament in Melbourne could have ended for him with a milestone result of 100 titles.

The 2019 Australian Open champion’s title went to Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who defeated in the final on Sunday Rafael Nadal of Spain.

This was the third Grand Slam champion’s title for Djokovic in a row as well as record-breaking 7th Australian Open’s crown, which solidly kept Djokovic in the top of the newly-published ATP Rankings. Spain’s Nadal remained in the 2nd place of the list.

Russia’s Karen Khachanov maintained his 11th position in the Rankings, while his compatriot Daniil Medvedev rose three places up after the 2019 Australian Open and is now ranked 16th.

The top ten of the ATP Rankings is as follows: 1. Novak Djokovic (Serbia); 2. Rafael Nadal (Spain); 3. Alexander Zverev (Germany); 4. Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina); 5. Kevin Anderson (South Africa); 6. Roger Federer (Switzerland); 7. Kei Nishikori (Japan); 8. Dominic Thiem (Austria); 9. John Isner (the United States); 10. Marin Cilic (Croatia).
