Russia’s Zenit St. Petersburg defeats French FC Bordeaux in UEFA Europa League

ST. PETERSBURG, October 25. /TASS/. Russia’s Zenit St. Petersburg football club won on Thursday night 2:1 in the group stage match of the UEFA Europa League against French FC Bordeaux.

The score of the game, held in the Russian second largest city of Saint Petersburg, was opened by guests 26 minutes into the match with a netter from Jimmy Briand.

Less than 20 minutes later Russia’s Artyom Dzyuba dived to put a perfect header into the left upper corner of the opponents net to tie the score at 1-1, which remained unchanged until the match’s half-time break. The winning goal in the second half, at the 56,000-seat capacity football arena in St. Petersburg, was scored by Daler Kuzyaev. The game was attended by 45,723 spectators.

The return match between Group C clubs Bordeaux and Zenit is scheduled to be played on November 8 at the over 42,000-seat capacity Stade de Bordeaux in France.
