Nearly half of free train tickets booked by 2018 World Cup fans

More than 200,000 free train tickets have been booked

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Around half of free tickets for trains transporting football fans between the host cities of the 2018 FIFA World Cup have been booked, according to the tournament’s transport directorate.

More than 200,000 free train tickets have been booked by fans, which constitutes around 48% of all seats available.

"So far, fans from 145 countries have booked free train tickets. Half of the tickets were booked by foreign fans. Among the most active foreign countries are Colombia, Argentina, China, Mexico and the US," said Kirill Polyakov, director general of Transport Directorate 2018.

About 730 extra trains seating 440,000 people will be launched for free transportation of fans. In order to apply for free tickets, fans need to buy match tickets and receive their Fan IDs. Free trains during the FIFA World Cup will have comfortable air-conditioned coaches equipped with eco-friendly lavatories and a dining car. Both regular and double-decker trains, as well as the high-speed Lastochka and Strizh trains, will be used during the tournament.

The matches of the 2018 World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 in 11 cities across Russia.
