MOSCOW, January 30. /TASS/. A boycott of the 2024 Summer Olympics will be the surest way to isolating all domestic sports for at least two Olympic cycles, the President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, wrote on his Telegram channel on Monday.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on January 25 suggested letting Russian and Belarusian athletes who are not actively involved in supporting the special military operation in Ukraine compete in a neutral status and on number of conditions.
"Everyone who is now calling on us to boycott the Olympics, regardless of the reasoning, should be well aware that this kind of demarche is the surest way to isolating all domestic sports for at least two Olympic cycles. That is, the flag, the anthem, and our athletes will be absent from top international competitions for at least eight years. This is exactly the aim our opponents pursue. At the same time, there have been no cases in history of a boycott having a positive effect on the development of sports in a single country," Pozdnyakov said.
At the end of February 2022, the IOC recommended all international federations to prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions due to the events in Ukraine.
