Bolivarian Alliance set to invite Russian athletes for 5th ALBA Games in April

The 5th ALBA Games will consist of 35 sports competitions organized at 30 sports venues

HAVANA, January 20. /TASS/. The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) is set to organize sports games in April for its member states in Venezuela and intends to invite Russian athletes as well, the press office of the Russian Embassy in Caracas told TASS on Friday.

"ALBA is set to organize 5th ALBA Games on April 21-29…," the Russian Embassy stated. "According to [Venezuela’s Minister of Popular Power for Youth and Sports Mervin] Maldonado, up to 3,500 athletes representing 10 member states of the alliance would take part in the tournament and athletes from Russia would be invited to participate as well."

The 5th ALBA Games will consist of 35 sports competitions organized at 30 sports venues in Venezuela’s states of Miranda and La Guaira as well as in Caracas’ Capital District. Venezuela hosted ALBA Games last time in 2011.

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) was established on December 14, 2004 upon the initiative on behalf of then-President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez and Cuban leader Fidel Castro. ALBA’s 10 member states are Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Nicaragua, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Venezuela.
