MOSCOW, November 18. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on the kick-off of the FIFA World Cup 2022, set to begin on November 20, in their phone conversation, the Kremlin reported on Friday.
"Vladimir Putin has congratulated the Emir of Qatar on the start of the FIFA World Cup in his country on November 20 and wished the national team of Qatar a successful performance," the press service said in a statement.
For his part, the Emir of Qatar thanked the Russian president for sharing his expertise in hosting a FIFA World Cup.
"Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani thanked Russia for actively sharing its experience in holding a FIFA World Cup," the Kremlin added.
Putin and Al Thani agreed to maintain contact at various levels.
The FIFA World Cup 2022 will be held in Qatar from November 20 through December 18.
