Russia’s 21 sports federations, ROC protest removal of athletes from competitions

All appeals were accepted but there have been no CAS verdicts yet, Deputy Sports Minister Andrey Fyodorov specified

MOSCOW, June 23. /TASS/. Russia’s 21 sports federations and the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) have challenged the removal of Russian athletes from international competitions, Deputy Sports Minister Andrey Fyodorov said at a meeting at the Federation Council on preventing unfriendly actions against Russian athletes by international organizations.

"Currently, a total of 21 Russian sports federations and the ROCs have used the right to appeal against discriminatory decisions made by international sports federations," Fedorov said. "In particular, the ROC and 12 Russian sports federations lodged protests with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). There have been no CAS verdicts yet. All appeals have been accepted. Preparatory procedures are underway. According to our information, decisions on the appeals filed will be made in the second half of the year. We expect that some developments will begin there in August-September."

On February 28, the IOC advised the international sports federations to prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Many sports federations agreed with the recommendation. Also, Russia lost the right to host a number of sports tournaments.
