Russia’s Daniil Medvedev loses to Djokovic in Australian Open final

Novak Djokovic won with the score 7-5, 6-2, 6-2

MOSCOW, February 21. /TASS/. Russia’s tennis star Daniil Medvedev was defeated by Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the Australian Open’s final.

The 33-year-old Serb, who was seeded No. 1, won with the score 7-5, 6-2, 6-2. Medvedev, 25, was seeded No. 4.

Medvedev is ranked fourth in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and after the Australian Open he will advance to the third place. He has won nine ATP titles, his best Grand Slam performance to date is the 2019 US Open final. At the end of the 2020 season, he won the ATP finals tournament, his winning streak that started last year has been extended to 20 matches.

The Serbian tennis star won Grand Slam tournaments 18 times, and is the ninth-time Australian Open champion (2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2021).

Medvedev was defeated by Djokovic for the fifth time in eight matches.
