Russian sports minister offered Russian COVID-19 vaccine to African athletes

The Russian minister underscored that the Russian vaccine had already proven its safety and efficacy

MOSCOW, February 4. /TASS/. Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin has offered athletes of African national teams to get the Russian coronavirus jab, the ministry’s press service told TASS.

Matytsin had a meeting with his counterparts responsible for physical education and sports from ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) in Senegal Thursday. The meeting included sports ministers from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, The Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Togo and Ghana. Senegalese Minister of Sports Mahtarr Bah welcomed the meeting members.

The Russian minister underscored that the Russian vaccine had already proven its safety and efficacy. He also added that the Russian Sports Ministry is gearing up for planned vaccination of Russian national teams in cooperation with other agencies. Matytsin expressed readiness to discuss in detail Russian vaccine supplies to African countries for athletes of national teams if there is such interest.
