Portuguese football club Benfica reports 17 positive cases of COVID-19

The club is now waiting for a decision whether it would be permitted to play matches in the next two weeks

MOSCOW, January 19. /TASS/. Tests for the novel coronavirus of 17 people from Portugal’s football club Benfica returned positive results, the club’s press service announced on Tuesday.

The mass COVID-19 outbreak was registered among the players, the coaching and general staffs. The press office did not specify how many players were among 17 people, diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.

The club is now waiting for a decision whether it would be permitted to play matches in the next two weeks.

Benfica FC is currently third in the top flight of the Portuguese football, the Primeira Liga, with 32 points after 14 rounds of the tournament. The club is scheduled to play its next match against Braga FC on January 20.
