SAITAMA /Japan/, March 22. /TASS/. Russia’s 2018 Olympic champion figure skater Alina Zagitova said that the gold medal in the 2019 ISU Figure Skating Championships was her main goal for the current season, the athlete said at a news conference after the championships in Japan.
On Friday, female figure skaters performed free programs at the world championships. Zagitova, who took the lead after the short program, showed the best result in the free program as well, winning the tournament with a 237.50 score. The Figure Skating Championships was the only tournament that the 16-year-old Russian, who has competed at the adult level for two years already, failed to win.
"I forget both victories and failures quickly; I’m looking only ahead," the figure skater said. "I had a goal and I pursued it throughout the whole season."
The figure skater said that she intends to further fight for high results. "I don’t like planning too far ahead. I don’t know what will happen in a minute, nor what will happen tomorrow," Zagitova said. "I prefer living for the day. Still, there is one thing I know perfectly well: I will fight."
