MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his congratulations to speed skater Ruslan Murashov, who raced to win last week the gold medal in men’s 500-meter event of the 2019 World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Germany’s Inzell.
"Your extraordinary talent, the outstanding physical condition and the strong will helped you to win over the strongest opponents from around the planet," Putin said in his congratulatory message to Murashov on Monday. "In an honest and uncompromised fight you have managed to show the best result on the 500m distance, having confirmed your undoubtedly high positions both on the national and global levels of speed skating."
The 26-year-old Russian speed skater took the gold on February 8 with the result of 34.225 seconds, which is now world’s 2nd best time for this distance. The silver went to Norway’s Havard Holmefjord Lorentzen, who finished the distance 0.13 seconds behind the winner clocking the result of 34.35 seconds.
Russian speed skater Viktor Mushtakov raced the circuit with the result of 34.43 seconds to pack the bronze for his national team in addition to Murashov’s gold in the 500m event.
The 2019 World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships was held between February 7 and 10 at the Max Aicher Arena in Germany’s Inzell. The team of Russian speed skaters won a total 11 medals (one gold and 10 bronze) at the international championship in Germany.
