Czech billionaire Kellner eyes buying England’s Chelsea FC from Abramovich

According to a source, the talks could be held within days

MOSCOW, October 25. /TASS/. The richest person in the Czech Republic, Petr Kellner, has been reportedly considering to buy England’s Chelsea football club from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, Czech weekly news magazine Tyden reported on Thursday.

According to the magazine, opening talks on the issue between the sides are likely to be held in the days to come. Kellner, who is the owner of the investment company PPF Group and is ranked by Forbes magazine as the world’s 88th richest man, is a friend of Russian tycoon Abramovich and their VIP-lounges at Chelsea FC’s home stadium Stamford Bridge are located nearby.

Earlier reports suggested that British businessman Jim Ratcliffe, whose wealth is estimated at $28.5 billion, turned to Abramovich with an offer to buy the club for $2.68 billion, but the Russian businessman declined the offer. If the deal went through, it would have been the most expensive in the history of sports clubs’ sales.

Abramovich bought Chelsea FC in 2003 for 140 million British pounds. Since then the club won the Premier League five times and won the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
