Russian striker Smolov leaves Krasnodar FC for Lokomotiv Moscow FC

Smolov played 101 matches for Krasnodar FC chalking up 64 goals and 21 assists

MOSCOW, August 9. /TASS/. One of Russia’s top scorers and forward of the national football squad Fedor Smolov has signed a contract with Lokomotiv Moscow football club, the press service of the club announced on Thursday.

The 28-year-footballer has been playing for Krasnodar FC since 2015. The terms and details of the player’s new contract have not been disclosed by the club’s press service.

"I am very glad to be here," Smolov was quoted as saying on the club’s official website. "It will be a very difficult season but I hope that we will manage to repeat the success of the previous season. I cannot wait for the moment to hit the field."

Lokomotiv Moscow FC Director General Ilya Gerkus said commenting on Smolov’s transfer that the club "covered a long distance and Fedor’s desire to play for Lokomotiv helped significantly."

"Our club and Krasnodar FC, as well as Smolov’s agents reached an agreement and we are very happy about it," Gerkus said. "I am sure that Fedor will expose himself in a new way and will present us with numerous magic moments."

Smolov played 101 matches for Krasnodar FC chalking up 64 goals and 21 assists. He was named Russia’s best striker in the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons of the Russian championship.

Playing as forward for the Russian national football team, Smolov scored 12 goals in 37 matches.
