MOSCOW, June 8. /TASS/. Russian players Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov helped Washington Capitals to defeat Vegas Golden Knights 4:3 on Friday and claim the Stanley Cup trophy.
Washington lost Game 1 before winning four straight.
Friday’s victory is the first championship and the second final for the Capitals, which entered the NHL in 1974.
On top of that, Washington captain Ovechkin received the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded annually to the player judged most valuable to his team (MVP). He is only the second Russian-born player to win the trophy, after Evgeni Malkin of The Penguins in 2009.
The Russian player scored 27 points (15 goals, 12 assists) in 24 games during the 2018 playoffs.
It was 13th NHL season for Ovechkin, sixth for Orlov and fifth for Kuznetsov.
