Russia beats France 7-0 in Ice Hockey World Championship opening match

On May 6, Russia will play its next group stage match vs Austria

COPENHAGEN, May 4. /TASS/. Russia has hammered France 7-0 in the first match of the 2018 Ice Hockey World Championship that kicked off in Copenhagen on Friday.

The goals were scored by Kirill Kaprizov (in the eighth and 38th minutes), Pavel Buchnevich (9th minute), Yevgeny Dadonov (11th minute), Alexander Barabanov (43rd minute), Maxim Shalunov (45th minute), and Artyom Anisimov (58th minute).

It was Russia’s fifth match vs France at world championships. Russia won four of them and lost one (2-1).

Russia currently tops Group A, with three points. Along with Russia and France, Group A includes Switzerland, Austria, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Sweden. Russia will play its next group stage match on May 6, vs Austria. Further on, it will confront Belarus (May 7), the Czech Republic (May 10), Switzerland (May 12), Slovakia (May 14), and Sweden (May 15).

Group stage matches will be played till May 15 to be followed by quarter-finals on May 17 and semi-finals on May 19. The final and third-place matches will be played on May 20.
