Russia blunts France with 7-1 win on home ice at 2018 IIHF U18 World Championship

The French team answered only once with a single goal delivered into the Russian net by Pierrick Dube with less than two minutes remaining in the match

CHELYABINSK, April 19. /TASS/. The Russian national youth ice hockey team confidently defeated France 7-1 during their opening match of the 2018 Ice Hockey U18 World Championship, held in the Russian Urals cities of Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk between April 10 and 29.

The goals for hosts Russia were scored by Semyon Kizimov (7th minute), Ruslan Iskhakov (9th minute), Yegor Zamula and Kirill Marchenko (both on 14th minute), Vladislav Mikhailov (34th minute), Dmitry Zavgorodny (35th minute) and Ivan Morozov (48th minute).

The French team answered only once with a single goal delivered into the Russian net by Pierrick Dube with less than two minutes remaining in the match.

Hosts Russia are now scheduled to meet with the team from the Czech Republic on Saturday, while France prepares to square off against Finland on Friday.

In other matches played during the opening day of the 2018 Ice Hockey U18 World Championship, Finland defeated Slovakia 5-2, Sweden triumphed over Switzerland 3-1 and Canada skated past the United States with 6-4 win.

A total of ten teams are participating in the 2018 IIHF U18 Ice Hockey World Championship and they are divided into two groups.

Group A enlists national youth teams from Canada, Sweden, the United States, Switzerland and Belarus. Group B puts on the contest the teams from Russia, Finland, Slovakia, France and the Czech Republic.
