Over 121,000 Syrian leave Eastern Ghouta since declaration of humanitarian pauses
People have left Eastern Ghouta with the assistance of the Russian reconciliation center
MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. As many as 121,700 Syrian have left Eastern Ghouta since the beginning of humanitarian pauses, chief of the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria Yuri Yevtushenko said on Tuesday.
"Since the declaration of humanitarian pauses, a total of 121,729 people have left Eastern Ghouta with the assistance of the Russian reconciliation center," he said.
According to Yevtushenko, militants of the Fayalq al-Rahman group and members of their families continue to leave the area via the Arbil humanitarian corridor under the center’s control for the fourth day in a row. "Yesterday, as many as 6,749 people used this humanitarian corridor to leave the area," he said.
Since the beginning of the humanitarian operation, some 13,190 militant and members of their families have left the settlements of Arbil, Jobar, Ain Terma and Zamalka. "All of them were taken to the settlement of Galaat al-Mudiq in the Idlib de-escalation zone," he said.
A humanitarian corridor with a checkpoint near the settlement of al-Wafidin continues to operate for civilians willing to leave the settlement of Douma. As many as 25,755 people have used this corridor to leave the enclave since February 28.
Following United Nations Security Council Resolution 2401 of February 24 calling to stop hostilities in Syria, daily humanitarian pause have been in effect at Russia’s initiative in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta since February 27. They are aimed at providing civilians and unarmed militants with an opportunity to leave the area. Militants disrupted humanitarian pauses in the first several days, but later on shelling incident ceased, so civilians have been leaving the enclave through the humanitarian corridor every day.
