Overwhelming majority of Russians see New Year's eve as family holiday — poll
Only 1% of those surveyed travel abroad for the holidays
MOSCOW, December 21. /TASS/. A recent poll by Russia’s Public Opinion Research Center revealed that almost 80% of Russians, who took part in the survey, choose to celebrate New Year’s eve at home, the center’s General Director, Valery Fedorov, said during his press conference.
"Seventy-eight percent of those surveyed plan to spend this holiday at home, with their families. Nevertheless, 8% opt to celebrate it by going out to visit someone," he said.
The head of the center however further noted that the number of Russians who celebrate the holiday at a friend’s house is declining. Over the last four years, it has nearly halved.
According to Fedorov, only 1% of those surveyed travel abroad for the holiday and almost the same number of people will go to out-of-town resort hotels.
"However, there are 4% who will not celebrate this holiday, which is a relatively small amount," he concluded.
