The tourist flow to the Far Eastern peninsula grew by 3-5% in 2017 as compared to 2016, according to the local tourist information center
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, December 4. /TASS/. Russia’s remote Kamchatka peninsula is seeing the increase of tourist flow from the Asia Pacific region, as well as southern Europe and the Baltic states, the local tourist information center told TASS on Monday.
"Ten years ago Kamchatka was mainly visited by travelers from Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. But recently the tourist flow from Asian countries, Japan, China, South Korea and Thailand, as well as Spain, Italy, Turkey, Israel, Latvia and Estonia has seen a significant increase," the center’s representative said.
The tourist flow to the Far Eastern peninsula grew by 3-5% in 2017 as compared to 2016 when 198,000 tourists visited the region, he added.
"Foreign guests prefer to buy package tours with accommodation and excursions included," he said. "But the number of individual tourists is also growing."
Most tourists come to Kamchatka to visit the famous Geyser Valley, the Kronotsky nature reserve, Klychevsky, Gorely and Mutnovsky volcanoes and nature parks.
Sea cruises along the Kamchatka coast and winter sports are also popular.
