MOSCOW, March 21. /TASS/. Archaeologist taking part in renovating Moscow’s streets discovered more than 7,000 historical finds, head of the Moscow Culture Heritage Department Alexey Yemelyanov said on Tuesday at a city government meeting.
"In 2016, more than 7,000 archaeological finds were discovered in Moscow, which is a record number. All of them have been handed over to museums. Last year, a map was uploaded to our website, which indicates the most significant findings, providing information on where the discoveries were made, as well as photos of the excavated treasures and their description," Yemelyanov said.
According to him, in 2016, a decision was made to create a museum in the Zaradye park that will be situated in an underground passage near the Moskvoretskaya embankment. The 16th century historical stonework, the walls of Kitai-Gorod, the wooden bridges from Zaryadye, dating back to the 18th century, and the archeological finds discovered during research work while setting up the Zaryadye park, including a birchbark manuscript from 15th to 17th century, are planned to be put on display there.
Besides that, in 2016, work was launched to turn a part of the White City wall, found in 2007 on Khokhlovskaya Square, into an exhibition object. The work is expected to be completed in 2017. In addition, efforts are in progress to preserve the archaeological sites and establish an archaeological route in the Mitino landscape park scheduled to be opened in 2018.
