Russia’s telecom watchdog blocks thousands of webpages with suicide content

MOSCOW, March 9. /TASS/. The Russian Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications has blocked more than 4,000 personal pages throughout cyberspace’s social networks containing information on suicide, its deputy head, Vadim Subbotin, told reporters on Thursday.

The official noted that an increasing trend in the amount of information on suicide had been observed online since last December. "From January to date, we have identified and blocked more than 4,000 personal pages in social networks and accounts," he stated, adding that such information was being monitored around the clock.

According to Subbotin, the Russian watchdog has blocked more than 14,000 personal pages and accounts on social networks, blogs and blog platforms containing information about suicide since 2012.
