Russian cleric said no hurrying to inter Lenin as this is a matter of time
"We shouldn’t run ahead of time or take the steps that could split society because this isn’t the main thing now," Metropolitan Hilarion said
MOSCOW, February 18. /TASS/. There should be no hurry with interring Vladimir Lenin, whose body has been lying in still in a specially built mausoleum on Red Square since his death 93 years ago, Metropolitan Hilarion, the head of Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations said on Saturday.
The metropolitan, who spoke at a conference devoted to the revolution of February 1917, said hasty decisions on interring Lenin’s body might bring about a yet another split in Russian society.
"He shouldn’t be there in the center of Moscow," His Beatitude Hilarion said. "The presence of that embalmed mummy by the Kremlin wall is totally out of place but I think it’s a matter of time."
"We shouldn’t run ahead of time or take the steps that could split society because this isn’t the main thing now," he said. "What really matters now is that people should live in peace and tranquility, and a strong government should lead the nation into a future through evolution, not revolution.’
The conference titled ‘In Memory of the Fallen. February. Tragedy. 1917’ was organized by the Ludvig Nobel foundation the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society, and the Imperial Historical Club. It will round up on Sunday with a remembrance service for all the victims of revolutionary terror, which the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill I will lead in Moscow’s famous Cathedral of the Savior.
