MOSCOW, January 8. /TASS/. Opposition activist Ildar Dadin, the first to be sentenced for numerous violations during rallies, is at a correction facility in the Altai Territory, his wife Anastasiya Zotova told TASS on Sunday.
"Ildar has called, he is at penal colony 5 in the Altai Territory," she said. Referring to local lawyers, the wife added that colony is considered to be of "high standards."
TASS as yet does not have comments from FSIN, the penitentiary service.
On January 5, Russia’s Human Rights Envoy Tatiana Moskalkova told TASS jailed Russian opposition activist Ildar Dadin will arrive at a new place of serving his prison term on January 9-10 and will get the opportunity to talk on telephone with one of his relatives.
Dadin’s case
Dadin is the first person in Russia sentenced for violation of Article 212.1 of the Criminal Code (repeated violations of the rules of public gatherings). In December 2015, Moscow’s Basmanny District Court found Dadin guilty on four counts of participating in unauthorized protests in Moscow.
Dadin was sentenced to three years in a penal colony but then the Moscow City Court reduced his jail term to two and a half years.
In autumn, 2016, the media publicized Dadin’s letter in which he claimed to have been tortured in the Segezh colony in Karelia. After that, Russian Human Rights Envoy Tatiana Moskalkova requested the Federal Penitentiary Service authorities and the Prosecutor General’s office to look into this case. The Karelia Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the regional Investigation Committee also initiated investigations. Independent doctors who examined Dadin found no signs of injuries on his body. Later reports said, the man was transferred to another correction facility.
