Moscow City Court to review legitimacy of former Economic Development Minister arrest
On November 15, Moscow’s Basmanny district court ruled to place Ulyukayev under house arrest
MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. The Moscow City Court is going to review the legitimacy of house arrest of the former Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev, who is accused of taking a bribe of $2 mln, spokesperson for the Basmanny District Court Yunona Tsareva told TASS.
"The appeal the accused will be reviewed by the Moscow City Court on November 28 at 10:45 MSK," Tsareva said. In the appeal the defense asked the Moscow City Court to cancel the decision of the district court and to choose a milder restrictive measure that would not related to the restriction of movement.
On November 15, Moscow’s Basmanny district court ruled to place Ulyukayev under house arrest, not allowed to leave it without permission, communicate with anyone, except his close relatives, send messages by mail or use any other means of communication, except for emergency services.
Ulyukayev was arrested upon receiving $2 mln as a bribe in exchange for the Economic Ministry’s positive assessment that allowed the oil major Rosneft to buy out from the state a 50.08% stake in the oil company Bashneft. Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko added that the extortion of the bribe was accompanied by threats against Rosneft representatives.
