Chechnya named Russia’s most ‘sober’ region

The Far East Magadan region, Chukotka autonomous district and the Republic of Komi in the Urals were placed on the bottom of the rankings
MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. The Chechen Republic tops the 2016 national temperance rating of Russian regions compiled by the Sober Russia federal project and the Civic Chamber’s analytical center.
The North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, Ingushetia and Dagestan with predominantly Muslim population were named Russia’s most sober regions while the Far East Magadan region and Chukotka autonomous district and the Republic of Komi in the Urals were placed on the bottom of the rankings.
The rating criteria included the level of sales of alcoholic beverages, the number of deaths caused by alcohol abuse, the amount of alcoholics and the alcohol-related crime statistics.
