Apple says it does not dictate iPhone prices to retail chains
On August 8, Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service brought a lawsuit against Apple over IPhone price coordination
MOSCOW, August 9. /TASS/. Apple does not dictate prices for iPhone to retail chains, the company reported Tuesday.
"Resellers set their own prices for Apple products they sell both in Russia and around the globe," the report said.
On August 8, Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) brought a lawsuit against Apple over IPhone price coordination. According to FAS, there are signs of pricing coordination across Russia by iPhone resellers, which has become the reason for setting similar retail prices for those smartphones. The prices for iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus set by retailers are slightly different against each other and those listed in the Apple’s press release dated September 28, 2015, which gives reasons to believe that retailers did not determine iPhone prices independently, FAS said.
The date of the hearing may be set within one month. In case structures related to Apple are found guilty they will face a fine from 1 to 5 mln roubles ($77,200).
Retailers polled by TASS said they set prices based on the current market environment, and denied Apple was dictating prices.
