Oleg Navalny was sentenced to 3 years 6 months on December 30, 2014

NARYSHKINO /Oryol region/, June 27. /TASS/. Uritsky district court of Russia’s central Oryol region has refused to order the release of brother of Russian opposition activist Alexey Navalny Oleg on parole, a TASS correspondent reported from the courtroom. He is serving his sentence in the Oryol penal colony on the charges of embezzling Yves Rocher funds.

"The court ruled the lawyer’s motion be turned down," Judge Vladimir Logash said.

Navalny’s lawyer drew the court’s attention to the fact that, while in prison, he worked as a librarian with due diligence, replenished the library collection at his own expense, has good conduct certificates. He added that Navalny’s wife is unemployed and that they have two children. Besides, Navalny’s father is facing a serious surgery. He himself has a guarantee of employment.

The judge noted that, while granting parole, only behavior in a penal colony is taken into account. According to the colony’s representative, Oleg Navalny has repeatedly violated prison rules and requires constant control by the administration.

On December 30, 2014 Moscow’s Zamoskvoretsky Court found the Navalny brothers guilty and sentenced Alexey Navalny to a suspended sentence of 3 years and 6 months, while Oleg Navalny was sentenced to 3 years 6 months in a prison colony.
