Rally against naming one of city bridges after Akhmad Kadyrov held in St. Petersburg
About 1,400 people signed a petition to Governor Georgy Poltavchenko against the Kadyrov bridge
ST. PETERSBURG, June 6 /TASS/. About 300 people rallied on Monday against a decision of the St. Petersburg toponymical commission to name an unnamed bridge in the city after Chechnya’s first president - Akhmad Haji Kadyrov.
Last week, the city’s toponymical commission recommended to give Akhmad Kadyrov’s name to one of the unnamed bridges in St. Petersburg though the final decision has not yet been made.
A coordinated protest rally took place at Marsovo Polye (the Field of Mars) in the city center. Police refrained from any comments on the protesters’ number.
The participants in the rally adopted a resolution demanding the cancellation of the toponymical commission’s decision and called on the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg to stage a vote of no-confidence to Vice-Governor Vladimir Kirillov, who heads the commission.
